Bath IFG meets Mayor Cllr Ruth Malloy
Mayor invites faith perspectives on celebrating culture, community and curiosity
Representatives from Bath IFG were received by the Mayor Cllr Ruth Malloy in the Mayor’s Parlour on 29 Sept. They shared perspectives on the Mayor’s theme for 2026/27 which is celebrating culture, community and curiosity.
The Mayor and her chaplain Revd Lorraine Shorten considered Druid, Humanist, Jewish, Methodist, Moravian and Quaker responses to the Mayor’s theme. We learned more about these different traditions as we discussed the Mayor’s theme in light of our community’s current needs.
We heard that curiosity shows a lack of complacency about others. We heard that conflict can be a basis for growth, and that arguing with respectful listening can help improve society. As the Jewish tradition has it: “argue for the sake of heaven”.
Bath IFG thanks the Mayor Cllr Ruth Malloy for the occasion. We’re delighted that she is herself a member of the Bath IFG. We look forward to the Mayor’s multi faith gathering in the new year.
