Bath IFG to live stream Nakba Remembrance Ceremony
Sumud in Humanity: join us for live streamed Nakba Remembrance Ceremony
Date: Fri 15 May Time: 1730 for 1800 Place: Museum of Bath Architecture, Countess of Huntingdon’s Chapel, The Paragon, The Vineyards, Bath BA1 5NA
Bath IFG is deeply mindful of the suffering in Israel and Palestine, and of the rising tide of hatred including anti-semitism and Islamophobia in the UK. Bath IFG does not take sides in the vexed politics of the Middle East. Our principles call us to reject violence, affirm human dignity, and encourage understanding rather than accusation.
Organised by Combatants for Peace the theme of Nakba Day this year is Sumud in Humanity. As the organisers explain:
Sumud - resilience - is understood as steadfastness, unbreakability, and a deep connection to land. Yet we believe Sumud is not the absence of pain; it is the conscious choice to remain human, especially when circumstances make it easier to dehumanize others. It is the courage to continue believing in justice and shared resistance when despair feels more rational. It means safeguarding our core humanity—dignity, compassion, and moral clarity—even when both history and present realities put it to the test.
The intention of the event is to improve understanding of the lived experiences and historical narratives of both societies. The organisers hold that this is essential to breaking the cycle of violence and building a different future. It reflects a commitment to justice, acknowledgment, and accountability, and affirms that true peace can only emerge when all people are free and the humanity of every individual is upheld without exception.
We’re grateful to Bath Preservation Trust for hosting the live stream event.
